DETAILED BIO
Raised in New York City, Carlen Altman is an award-winning filmmaker, artist, and inventor whose work spans media, design, wellness, and cultural storytelling. Her creative career includes MTV News, HBO’s High Maintenance, and pioneering projects like The Jewish Rosary™, featured on The Today Show and carried by Urban Outfitters.
She holds a B.A. in Psychology (with a focus in Media Psychology) and Environmental Studies from Oberlin College, along with advanced certifications in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica and Integrative Health through the IHP Institute.
Carlen has performed stand-up comedy across the United States, contributed to award-winning films including The Color Wheel, and interviewed cultural luminaries ranging from Naomi Klein to Zach Bush. Her work often explores unorthodox perspectives with humor and heart, reaching millions through outlets such as The New York Times, MTV News, The Today Show, and The Wall Street Journal.
Yet behind the scenes, Altman was privately navigating decades of chronic anxiety, fatigue, and complex health challenges since childhood that conventional systems struggled to resolve.
In 2017, she was slated to star in her own environmental comedy docu-series, Carlen Saves The World, before life took an unexpected turn.
The sudden loss of her father (comedian “Uncle Dirty,” a mentor to George Carlin and Richard Pryor) combined with an accidental psychedelic experience (LONG STORY) catalyzed a profound spiritual awakening and a radical reassessment of her path and sense of purpose.
What followed was a hermetic nine-year healing odyssey.
Between 2017-2025, Carlen lived off-grid in bamboo huts in Bali and tiny homes in the California redwoods, immersing herself in diverse healing modalities ranging from detoxification and nervous system regulation to psychic training and ancient spiritual practices under the teaching of Shamans. This deeply personal journey culminated in a defining realization:
“To truly help heal the world, we must first learn how to heal ourselves — and unlearn the programming that disconnects us from our true nature and creation/Mother Nature herself.”
Today, Altman IS BUILDING A NEW PARADIGM OF humor and healing.
Through her platforms 1-800-EARTH, HOW TO GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER, and her Substack EARTH TO CARLEN, she creates art, designs, media, and immersive experiences that explore consciousness as the “human operating system,” reframing creativity, authenticity, and laughter as powerful tools for cultural and personal renewal.
Her work supports:
• Individuals navigating neurodiversity, perfectionism, burnout, chronic fatigue and creative paralysis
• Artists and healers seeking an empathic collaborator or creative pivot
• Founders and cultural leaders reimagining ethical systems, regenerative design, and human-centered innovation in service to liberation - of their customers and themselves…
Carlen guides people and organizations toward choices that prioritize coherence over performance, nervous-system sustainability over hustle culture, and realness over image — demonstrating that humor, embodiment, and authenticity may be the most powerful medicine* we have.
